Akosua Barthwell Evans leads The Barthwell Group, a multi-dimensional strategic management consulting firm, serving clients including Kaiser Permanente, Lockheed Martin, McKesson, Medtronic and State Street. The training curriculum for SDP professionals for the MMSDC came from them; they have guided clients through a variety of supplier diversity challenges such as strategic sourcing and supplier capability enhancement. Dr. Evans, a NACD Governance Fellow, has served on numerous boards. She also founded The Friends of Education at The Museum of Modern Art in New York and served on the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African-Americans. Her awards reflect her passion to give back: One of the 25 Most Influential African-American Women in Business, Distinguished Black Woman Award, recognition by The Museum of Modern Art, recognition by the Thurgood Marshall College, and the “Entrepreneur Leadership Award”. Dr. Evans is a graduate of Barnard College and Yale Law School where she was a Co-Marshall of her class and won the Edward R. Robbins Memorial Prize for her writing. She holds a PhD and MPhil from Columbia University.
