Dallas M. “Chip” Tarkenton
Director, Community Relations, Owens & Minor
Chip Tarkenton came to Owens & Minor in 2011 from WRIC TV8, where he was a weekday sports anchor for 8 News At 6PM and 8 News Tonight at 11PM. He overhauled O&M’s Volunteer Council resulting in the largest number of teammates ever involved in company outreach. He revamped O&M’s Donations Committee leading to four straight under budget years, while keeping the company branding and reputation for serving our community. Rave reviews have led to other companies using a similar program for support. Chip Tarkenton started in the communications business at age fifteen, when he worked at family-owned radio stations in Georgia. He went on to be a sportswriter, then a weekend sports anchor at WDEF TV, Chattanooga, Tennessee. From there he moved to sports director at WBMG, Birmingham, Alabama, and WLOS, Asheville, North Carolina. Tarkenton is a Member of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Special Olympics in Virginia and the Advisory Committee for the Virginia High School League.  He is also involved in the James River Athletic Boosters and contributes as an advisor to many non-profit groups. Tarkenton holds a BA in Speech Communication from the University of Georgia.
